Resorbable Wound Dressing Wound healing is a complicated process and although a variety of wound dressings are well known, an effective wound dressing is one which can provide clinical and pharmaceutical features for optimal treatment. Wits has a wound healing dressing technology that addresses these challenges in that it can form a pseudoskin, which means that no dressing changes are required during the wound healing process. This factor enables the wound microenvironment to be maintained and allows for effective therapeutic control and enhanced patient compliance. The wound dressing is manufactured from materials which are resorbable, bioadherent and biodegradable. It has been tested in animal models to date. Th next steps are to explore manufacture of the nanofibers at a commercial scale to ensure processes to make the nanofibres and sterilise the dressing are developed, undertake key biocompatibility and testing as partial input towards meeting regulatory requirements, as well as to perform limited human clinical studies. The manufacturing process utilises various techniques to modify the bipolymers of the dressig in such a manner so that they can mimic the native skin cells which assists in addressing the need set out above. Vagitab It has been envisaged that the biggest potential for the prevention of HIV/AIDS currently lies in a method that can entirely be controlled by women. The most promising are HIV preventive approaches which call for the need of developing delivery systems for microbicides. These are bioactive agents that when administered to the vagina prior to coitus, have the potential to either prevent or reduce HIV/AIDS transmission through numerous well-established mechanisms. Core-Melt Oral Tablet The design and development if the novel Tri-functionalised OCMT attempts to breakthrough this market by triple-targeting the major challenges governing successful oral delivery of proteins and peptides. Essentially, the Tri-functionalised OCMT is made up of three distinct functional components; the core-eutectic region, the outer polymer shell and the ‘smart’ polymeric sheet. Triple targeting was achieved by incorporating the bioactive into a core-melt archetype within the tablet and facilitating the process of in situ crosslinking which insignificantly affects the way the bioactive is protected within the compressed tablet matrix as well as providing desirable bioactive release kinetics. In addition, the incorporation of a co-inhibitory ‘smart’ polymeric sheet provided addeed protection and enabled an improved absorption by virtue of its intrinsic properties and co-inhibition of the major determinants, CYPA4 and Pgp, of poor absorption and low oral availability. Lastly, targeting of enzymatic degradation was achieved by incorporation of a pH modifier that functions to transiently lower the micro-environmental pH and reduce the optimal environmnent for enzyme activity. Project Thuthikani Flourochemical Complex made up of 30 000 tons per annum (tpa) Hydrofluoric Acid production plant through the beneficiation of Fluorspar and Sulphuric Acid. It will process 8 distinct primary agricultural value chains to produce secondary and tertiary stage products leveraging the natural endowment of the region. Elegant Afro Chemicals (EAC) The project entails the development of a chlor alkali facility in the Richards Bay Development Zone (RBIDZ) for local and international consumption. EAC will manufacture 99% dry caustic soda (caustic flakes) flakes, 50% w/w concentration caustic soda solution (caustic solution), liquid chlorine, sodium hypochlorite as well as hydrochloric acid
EAC’s key value proposition will be its contribution to the replacement of the import of caustic soda lye to South Africa. South Africa has been recoded to have a shortfall of 290 000 tpa of caustic soda lye, which is imported annually into South Africa. EAC will also contribute to the export of locally produced product to Namibia, Angola, Zambia and Nigeria.

Grasland Ondernemings Lime Production Facility The project entails a commercial exploitation of South African limestone deposits located in Burhmansdrift and Wagendrift in Mahikeng, North West Province.
Hatch was mandated to conduct a bankable feasibility study on the project and this has been completed. The plant design capacity is estimated at 200ktpa burnt lime.
The project promoter is Grasland, a group of companies bbacked by experienced individuals who have track record in mining of limestone and other ores.
